Fenagh Engineering and Testing provides special inspections, materials testing, and geotechnical engineering services for a wide array of private and public sector clients.
We are seeking to hire a Geotechnical Engineer for our NYC office.
Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly experienced and technical Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in deep foundation systems, specializing in secant pile walls and retaining structures. The successful candidate will lead the design, analysis, and construction support for complex infrastructure projects, deep excavation projects in urban environments. Uphold strict adherence to ethical standards, transparency, and duty to public safety in all inspection activities.
CoreResponsibilities
- Design & Analysis: Perform, special inspections for deep foundations, including bored piles (drilled shafts), micropiles, and particularly secant pile walls (hard-hard or hard-soft) for excavation support.
- Construction Support & Troubleshooting: Provide onsite support and engineering solutions during the construction phase, specifically overseeing the sequencing, plumbness, and concrete placement of secant piles.
- Experience: Prior experience verifying rock socket depth, diameter, cleanliness, and bearing stratum via downhole video inspection and field measurement.
- Site Investigations: Develop and manage subsurface investigation programs (borings, CPTs) to characterize soil and rock, specifically to assess drilling conditions for large-diameter secant piles.
- Reporting: Prepare daily site activity logs, inspection reports, non-conformance notices, and photo documentation for owner and regulatory review.
- Client Interface: Act as a primary technical contact for clients, contractors, and subcontractors, providing expert advice on foundation constructability and value engineering.
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in geotechnical inspections, with a heavy emphasis on deep foundation design and construction.
- Technical Knowledge: Experience in secant pile walls and other earth retention systems (contiguous, slurry walls).
- Software: Proficiency in Procore software.
- Experience in high-torque rotary drilling and tremie concrete methods.
- Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring (inclinometers, piezometers).
- Familiarity with local building codes and DOT requirements.
