DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Controls Engineer to join our team specializing in Manufacturing for our Cummins Inc. facility in York, SC
.
Assists with the development of all aspects of control systems, equipment, and machinery.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways- Contribute to reliable control system designs by supporting the development and refinement of control architectures that meet functional, safety, and performance requirements.
- Improve system performance through rigorous bench testing, assisting with test development, execution, and documentation to validate control logic, sensors, and actuators.
- Ensure hardware and software operate to specification by modifying configurations, code, and equipment to resolve performance gaps and maintain system integrity.
- Accelerate issue resolution by troubleshooting and debugging basic control system problems and implementing approved change requests efficiently.
- Support informed financial decisions by preparing cost estimates, compiling equipment and labor data, and drafting clear appropriation requests.
- Develop practical, well-balanced solutions by investigating project requirements and proposing plans that consider economic, staffing, and environmental constraints.
- Strengthen engineering decision-making by providing accurate technical analysis and recommendations for review by senior Controls Engineers or the Controls Engineering Manager.
- Enable successful PLC-based implementations by assisting with installation, configuration, and ongoing technical support of PLC hardware and software systems.
- Strong collaborative mindset Build effective partnerships with engineers, manufacturing, IT, safety, and suppliers to align technical solutions with shared production and business objectives.
- Clear, adaptable communication skills Translate complex controls and automation concepts into clear, actionable messages for diverse audiences, from operators and technicians to leadership and external partners.
- Commitment to health and safety excellence Proactively identify, report, and address safety risks while modeling safe behaviors to help foster an interdependent, injury-free manufacturing culture.
- Solid controls engineering foundation Apply controls hardware and software knowledge to specify, review, and support designs for new or upgraded equipment that integrate seamlessly across manufacturing systems.
- Expertise in controls networking and system security Implement secure, reliable data communication methods that connect machines, production systems, and databases while protecting controls systems from cyber and operational risks.
- Effective electrical and controls troubleshooting skills Analyze electrical control systems to quickly diagnose, repair, and restore equipment to proper operating conditions, minimizing downtime.
- Automation and machine programming capability Design, program, and implement machine-level solutions that improve automation, optimize equipment usage, and enhance overall manufacturing performance.
- Manufacturing and sensor technology knowledge Leverage an understanding of manufacturing processes and sensor technologies to implement process improvements, ensure accurate measurement, and support quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Respect for and inclusion of diverse perspectives Value differences in experience, background, and thought, using diverse viewpoints to drive better problem-solving and more innovative engineering solutions.
- College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Basic level of relevant experience required.
- This role is 100% onsite in night shift.
- Should have good understanding about trouble shooting related to electronic controls, Ignition, MES, IT Issues and Automation.
