Senior Environmental Specialist Level 1Senior Environmental Specialist Level 1 supports Project Management and Design Management for historic preservation-related permitting/design and construction projects / programs . Prepare regulatory permit requests and liaise between various regulatory agencies for landmark Transit properties.
Responsibilities- Coordinate with contractors and consultants regarding the rehabilitation of landmark protected properties, to view mock-ups, review finish samples, track construction progress, and collaborate with design staff on landmark site projects.
- Involved with supporting field efforts supporting archeology/historic infrastructure for all phases of capital projects.
- Partner with the Environmental group to ensure completion of NEPA, Section 106, Section 4 (f), environmental due diligence, Phase 1(a) Archaeology Reviews, etc.
- Ensure Transit has a current list of all Transit-owned landmark-protected properties;
- Screen State and Federally-funded projects for potential impacts to cultural resources for all program area projects.
- Partner with the NY Transit Museum to continue museum acquisitions of historic finishes.
- Coordinate and edit Contract Specifications for landmark and non-landmark rehabilitation projects .
- Applies MTA C&D quality assurance guidelines and procedures for project document management.
- Prepare reports and permit documents.
- Bachelor's in Environmental Science , Environmental Technology , Environmental Management , Archaeology , Anthropology , Biology , Wildlife , or related field .
- Master's preferred.
- Various Disciplines may be (but not limited to):
Historic Preservation , Archaeology, Architecture . - Must have a minimum of six (6) years of related experience .
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years in a management or supervisory role and/or project manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization.
- Experience performing site inspections, documenting site conditions and construction activities, coordinating with Agency Owner and contractor staff, and responding to contractor requests for information.
- Knowledge of the capital design and construction process.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills , including the proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in current industry software is required.
- Experience visiting field for initial scope/survey and construction oversight preferred.
