Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Tunnel Geologist (NY OR NJ PE & PG Required) – Major Tunnel Project, New York
Location: New York

A leading engineering consultancy working on a major, high‑profile tunnel project in New York is seeking an experienced Tunnel Geologist with strong technical expertise in underground works. The successful candidate must hold both Professional Engineer (PE) and Professional Geologist (PG) registrations and bring substantial hands‑on experience with tunnelling, geotechnical investigations, and geological risk management. This is an opportunity to play a key technical role in one of the region’s most complex and critical underground infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide geological and geotechnical expertise for tunnel alignment, excavation, and ground‑support design.
  • Conduct and interpret subsurface investigations, including borehole logging, rock/soil characterisation, and geotechnical data analysis.
  • Support design teams by evaluating geological hazards and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Work closely with tunnelling, geotechnical, and structural engineers to ensure the geological model supports safe and efficient excavation.
  • Review contractor submittals, excavation methods, instrumentation strategies, and ground treatment proposals.
  • Participate in risk assessments, tunnel behaviour forecasting, and monitoring plan development.
  • Conduct site visits and provide technical oversight during excavation, including face mapping and real‑time geological assessment.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical reports and documentation for client and regulatory review.
Requirements
  • Professional Engineer (PE) and Professional Geologist (PG) licenses — both required.
  • Significant professional experience as a Tunnel Geologist, Engineering Geologist, or related role on large underground or tunnelling projects.
  • Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, ground behaviour, and excavation impacts.
  • Experience with tunnel excavation methods (e.g., TBM, NATM/SEM, drill‑and‑blast).
  • Ability to interpret geotechnical instrumentation data and adapt recommendations to changing ground conditions.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field.
