Civil Service Title – Civil Engineer II
In order to be considered for this position, the candidate must be serving permanently in the title or be reachable on the list.
Under direction of EIC, serves as a civil engineer, level II, in the Monitoring and Survey Unit of the Bureau of Engineering Review and Support. Performs field survey and visual inspections of bridges and retaining walls; monitors cracks and movements in bridge structures, foundation settlement, and twisted movements in steel girders and floor beams due to accidents. Verifies field elevations to determine existing vertical clearances of bridge structures.
Operates survey equipment and office software for efficient monitoring of bridges and retaining walls, collects data from the field and creates databases for projects. Performs other related duties. The candidate must have a driver’s license valid in New York State.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
- Recent experience operating survey equipment.
- Advanced knowledge using AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Windows.

Minimum Qualifications- Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
- A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License; registration must be maintained for the duration of employment.
A master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required above.
Special NoteTo be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
