We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Models team. In this role, you will manage a team of motivated ICs to build the next generation of Etsy's models platform, which in turn will enable customer teams to improve the quality of search, ads, recommendations, and other ML applications for nearly 100 M buyers and over 5 M sellers. This is a full‑time position reporting to the Director of Engineering for ML Enablement.

The role will be based in Brooklyn, NY, or for remote candidates based in the United States. Etsy offers three work modes—Flex, Remote, and Office—to meet our team’s diverse needs and preferences.

• The Machine Learning Enablement Initiative builds and maintains a complete ecosystem of ML systems, including our feature & embeddings store, model training, serving, orchestration, and testing infrastructure.
• The Models team manages the model catalog, APIs, and serving infrastructure that runs online models at high scale (millions of inferences per second). Historically focused on operations, the team is transitioning to a more direct role in the application layer.
• We are leading Etsy’s migration from Tensor Flow to PyTorch, building upon an innovative architecture using KServe, NVIDIA Triton, Apache Arrow, and Ray. This move addresses automation, integration, and standardization gaps across the ML platform.
• We aspire to unify modeling approaches across all major ML development teams, influencing how models are created, trained, and deployed company‑wide.

• Meet with customers to understand their latest use cases, translating them into concrete requirements. Offer informed perspectives on engineering, system design, and machine learning considerations.
• Monitor ongoing issues (stability, performance, cost) with models on the platform and identify both short‑term fixes and long‑term improvements.
• Maintain a product roadmap, lead agile processes, and plan work streams for a team of four ICs, occasionally leading multi‑functional “tiger teams” for dedicated projects.
• Coach your ICs and support their career development trajectories.
• Own and maintain the team's customer‑facing surfaces: documentation, code examples, metrics, dashboards, UIs, launch announcements, etc.
• Embrace an engineering culture that encourages career growth and learning in a blameless environment, and share insights on our Engineering blog.
• Adapt to evolving responsibilities; duties may change from time to time at Etsy’s discretion or as required by local law.

• Strong track record of developing and serving machine learning models at scale, with at least four years in a leadership capacity (tech lead or EM) and two years as an engineering manager.
• Deep technical expertise coupled with the ability to build partnerships across teams in a highly collaborative environment.
• Passion for building platforms that are maintainable, extendable, and delightful to use.
• Excellent collaborator, communicator, and coach with a dedication to helping engineers grow.
• Five or more years of experience building, iterating, and solving complex backend problems.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud technologies (Google Cloud, AWS, Kubernetes) is a plus.
