The Public Safety Senior Network Engineer will demonstrate and apply both low and high-level architecture of NG911 and integrate its sub-systems supporting PSACs. An in-depth understanding of PSAC technologies and network requirements. This will greatly help the City in many ways, including having clear and comprehensive technical insight into all existing and future technologies providing detail solutions to complex requirements in NYC RFPs and other PSAC related project.
Full demonstrated understanding of current technologies and all vendors subsystems, work with other teams to identify any technical gaps, help drive the lower levels of engineering scopes that need to be done to verify newer solutions and guidance that supports NG911 evaluators during the vital proposal evaluation process, etc.
Provide engineering and technical leadership role within the Public Safety programs. Work with implementation engineer from NICE Systems, VESTA Solutions, all internal DoITT teams, and external vendors. Has a deep understanding of all technologies supporting existing PSAC, NICE logging and recording system, VESTA, NYPD PCT, FDNY ARDs and EMT voice and text conversations, Text-to-911.
The successful candidate will serve as Senior Network Engineer reporting to the Public Safety Division.
Responsibilities will include:
- Review and evaluate software and network design issues, ensure efficient data flow, scalability, cost-efficiency, and application needs; design and code router/switch configurations;
- Implement new processes/functions on routers and switches, including but not limited to SIP, QoS, multicasting, NTP, VLAN configurations, TACACS, HSRP, Content Networking, and advanced network routing;
- Provide advanced network assistance in new project development;
- Attend Project meetings to assess Network infrastructure needs and required design augmentations that may be required.
- Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN);
- Configure and install software, servers, routers and other network devices;
- Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness;
- Provide assistance to team members on technical issues;
- Create, oversee and test network resiliency measures;
- Communicate with upper management when needed;
- Maintain complete technical documentation, high and low level design;
- Facilitate technical designs and architecture discussions with clients;
- Handle special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Day - Due to the necessary technical duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.
