Position Summary Design Coordinator Project Manager – The Design Project Manager provides direction and management for large scale Design-Build projects and ensures on-schedule completion within or below budget in accordance with contractual obligations. The Design Project Manager shall oversee, monitor and coordinate the design scopes of work with internal and external stakeholders, MTA and Subcontractors to achieve a best constructable design.
Coordination of different categories of design include Structural, Architectural, MEP, Communications, Boldyn, Track lighting and Track work. This Manager also plans and defines program goals and devises methods to accomplish them; develops in-depth knowledge of client objectives, contract terms, and corporate policies, and must be familiar with the integration of engineering/technical aspects, as well as procurement and construction activities. By supporting the various aspects of the design teams, you will enable teams to collaborate and integrate with the Project designer.
You will improve team communication, collaboration, and remove roadblocks. Finally, you ll utilize a full range of organizational and demonstrated communication skills to help keep our teams on track, execute specific design initiatives intended to provide a concerted and constructable design and facilitate team connectivity.
- Drive design initiatives forward that have multiple stakeholders, competing deadlines, and many moving parts
- Prioritize, assess tradeoffs, propose clear solutions and communicate effectively
- Define and manage initiatives that improve design team efficiency and impact
- Facilitate meetings to drive progress against goals and objectives and establish clear next steps and owners, while resolving blocks that impede progress
- Proactively assess risk, raise flags and resolve issues before they become problems.
- Support the management team with effective team communication, proactive problem solving and information distribution
- Define and measure impact of programs and initiatives both qualitatively and quantitatively
- Design/Design Compliance Services technical authority for establishing and auditing design delivery standards for all engineering and architectural disciplines in C&D Delivery. The Design Manager manages the architectural and engineering design processes to conform to professional industry and MTA C&D standards.
- Responsible for monitoring and/or auditing third-party technical design and engineering activities for compliance with the contract’s requirements.
- Provides continuous design oversight throughout the entire project lifecycle.
- Manages and allocates design review team members to project schedules/milestones.
- Acts as a technical authority & governance.
- Works with other managers, project engineers, and discipline leads to develop schedules, and plans for the various elements of a project. Ensures that the project meets or exceeds goals established in these plans.
Skills and Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Civil Engineering (or related) required
- At least 15+ years of related work experience is required
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Experience as Lead Design Manager on Design-Build projects is required
- Additional design experience on Design-Build projects
- Proven background of leading multidisciplinary design teams on challenging, high-profile projects.
- Works outdoors at construction sites and indoors
- Likely works off-hours and weekends to match construction schedules.
- Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction
- Sits, reads, writes, and uses a keyboard
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather
- May be exposed to loud noise.
