Data Center Infrastructure Electrical Engineer
Google invites applications for the Data Center Infrastructure Electrical Engineer position.
Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department—cutting‑edge strategies are born, tested, and refined. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run environmentally‑friendly facilities.
You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior‑level executives, and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.
With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements, and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical). In this role, you will work as an Individual Contributor responsible for supporting the design, validation, construction, and commissioning of Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) electrical systems for global data center projects.
Minimum qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in mission‑critical facility design and construction environments.
- 8 years of experience in electrical design, construction, or maintenance of commercial or industrial facilities.
- 8 years of experience with data center or critical power infrastructure (UPS, generators, Power Distribution Unit (PDU)).
- 8 years of experience with power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM) for basic load and fault studies.
- 2 years of experience with National Electrical Code/International Electrotechnical Commission codes and mission‑critical power distribution topologies (e.g., N, N+1, 2N).
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience working with data center equipment and environments (switch gear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, fire safety systems) and understanding of start‑up/commissioning processes.
- Experience with cross‑discipline teams (structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, architectural).
- Experience with medium voltage systems.
- Execute electrical design and calculation packages (load calculations, voltage drop, short‑circuit analysis) for LV distribution systems, UPS, and emergency power generation.
- Assist engineers in reviewing single‑line diagrams, electrical schematics, and equipment submittals (switch gear, transformers) from external design partners for technical compliance.
- Support field commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) of electrical infrastructure, performing quality checks and troubleshooting issues.
- Maintain and update design standards, specifications, and CAD/Building Information Modeling (BIM) models for electrical systems.
