Adaptec Solutions is a top-ten, North American integration partner engineering diverse material handling and automation solutions with lifecycle service support for manufacturing, distribution, and warehousing companies.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all aspects of system design, drafting, build, debug, and installation support. This includes mechanical design, drawing package creation, build support, robot and PLC programmer assistance, process development and improvement, and startup of industrial automation systems.

Key Job Responsibilities

Design & Development
  • Create mechanical assembly and detail designs for industrial automation systems.
  • Research and source components, obtaining quotes and specifications from vendors.
  • Develop and maintain accurate bills of materials from drawing packages.
  • Perform engineering calculations to size system components per client specifications and industry standards.
  • Knowledge and application of design principles (Design for Assembly, Design for Manufacturability, etc).
  • Evaluate project and design feasibility, including engineering analyses (classical mechanics, simulations, etc), time studies, and cost analysis.
Integration & Support
  • Assist PLC and Robot Programmers during system build, startup, and debugging.
  • Knowledge of Controls systems and how they interact with mechanical design.
  • Support installation, startup, and troubleshooting activities at customer sites.
Process & Management
  • Stay up to date with emerging automation technologies and apply where needed.
  • Participate in system risk assessments (safety, process risk assessment).
  • Attend and contribute to internal and external design reviews.
  • Promote engineering solutions that align with technical and budgetary constraints.
  • Adhere to project schedules & manage priorities within multiple projects in various phases.
  • Ensure adherence to company standards and best practices.
  • Work closely with project managers and customers throughout project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated automation solutions.
  • Assume the role of project Technical Lead when required.
  • Support overall organizational growth initiatives.
Education & Experience
  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in automation design.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project task management abilities.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (5%) to customer sites and other company locations.
Technical Proficiency
  • Design Software: AutoCAD Inventor (preferred) or Solid Works, AutoCAD 2D, CAD PDM (product data management) systems, HyCAD (a plus).
  • General software: Microsoft Office products.
  • Software Applications: Encompix (a plus).
Expertise in Machine Systems
  • Sequential part assembly and processing

  • Conveyors & material handling
  • Forging processes
  • End-of-line packaging

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the wage range for this role is $85, annually. The salary rate range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Adaptec Solutions considers factors including, but not limited to experience and geographic location.
