Position: Senior Electrical/ Critical Systems’ Commissioning Agent
Location: New York

Overview

Senior Electrical/ Critical Systems’ Commissioning Agent role at WSP USA. Location options include New York, NY (New York office) with other locations considered in New Jersey, Philadelphia and Virginia.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from construction sites during various phases for project energy auditing actions, validation, and commissioning.
  • Perform professional building and system commissioning work by researching and inspecting site conditions, equipment, resources, layout, usage, and systems to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, codes, and permits.
  • Develop and configure testing specifications and readiness plans; prepare and update checklists/punch lists and cost estimates coordinating with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Be involved from project inception to completion for commissioning deliverables across concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, integration, installation, and operation.
  • Assist with advanced technologies, monitoring, modeling techniques, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to ensure proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems per specifications.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on commissioning and retro-commissioning of building systems including electrical switch gear, distribution, backup systems, and automation.
  • Support cross-functional teams on mid-size to multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, time tracking, cost and quantities, technical calculations, permits, schematics, construction, compliance documentation, and regulatory memos.
  • Assist with commissioning and operational plans ensuring data integrity and compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Prepare data visualizations and technical presentations for interpretation of complex data and findings.
  • Maintain quality control standards and documentation of testing results and procedures for accurate measurements and reporting.
  • Contribute to the development and scoping of medium- to large-sized commissioning projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level to mid-level commissioning staff.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations outlining findings and recommendations for design or installation improvements.
  • Analyze site assessment data to inform action plans for risk-related installations, equipment operations, and mitigation activities.
  • Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients; collaborate with engineers, inspectors, project control, and technicians on building improvement projects and business development opportunities.
  • Stay current with latest commissioning techniques and practices; uphold WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering or Construction-related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7+ years of relevant post-education experience in building and systems commissioning.
  • Knowledge of building commissioning principles, processes, and application to project work.
  • Technical knowledge of HVAC and electrical building systems for evaluation and testing.
  • Professional licensure/certification.
  • Total facilities commissioning experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Licensure/certification as an improving professional credential.
  • Knowledge of electrical system coordination and tools such as SKM, E-Tap, E-Z Power for short circuit/coordination/arc flash programs.
Benefits and Compensation

WSP offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement savings, paid leave, and other leave benefits. Compensation range: $99,800 - $135,300 depending on location and experience.
