Environmental Engineer
H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firm with offices in NY, NJ, CT and FL, is seeking a dynamic Environmental Practice Leader to grow, develop, support and enhance our scope of environmental services in a Seller-Doer role in Syracuse, NY. Specific experience in the energy/utility market is preferred. The successful candidate will provide environmental project management expertise, business development, client relationship management and coordination of key environmental services within the firm.
The role will be responsible for strategically growing business development efforts and supporting technical aspects of environmental projects and operations for the firm.
- Grow, develop and lead H2M environmental initiatives to expand and diversify the company’s consulting client base, targeting regional energy/utility markets and collaborating with others on business development opportunities.
- Work with market/BD/discipline leaders to develop environmental business initiatives and enhance client relationships at the local and state level.
- Lead the development and expansion of environmental service revenues in the energy and utility sectors, while supporting growth across diverse markets such as real estate, industrial, and public agencies.
- Maintain and build relationships with existing and prospective clients, leveraging internal staff resources for new leads and fostering a team‑oriented approach to opportunity development.
- Develop and manage environmental and compliance opportunities, cross‑selling environmental management/compliance services with other primary services (training, safety, environmental investigation, remediation, geotechnical engineering, and energy).
- Provide direction to environmental managers and staff, overseeing new work acquisition, scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, and planning for environmental projects.
- Deliver technical leadership and oversight on project management, coordinate trade shows and industry activities, prepare proposals in conjunction with marketing and technical staff, assist with go/no‑go decisions for RFP responses, and marshal necessary resources for proposal development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or Engineering with a minimum of 15–20 years of managerial‑level planning, environmental compliance, and project management experience of large-scale initiatives.
- Prior business development and client management experience, with a proven ability to grow and manage client relations across internal and external stakeholders.
- Professional registration (PE, PG, CGWP, or other related professional registrations) preferred.
- Demonstrable experience in the energy and utility markets, including due diligence, remediation, permitting, etc.
- Strong understanding of state and federal environmental regulations and their impact on business operations and the energy and utility markets.
- Ability to generate new business from existing and new clients and to normally operate within a seller/doer business model in an environmental/industry/multidisciplinary firm.
- Skill in coordinating resource needs for environmental project success and collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams across offices.
- Extensive knowledge of the NY State environmental market and clients.
- Strong management/supervisory skills to lead a group of technical staff at various levels, effectively delegate responsibilities, maintain่อ client satisfaction, and secure new work.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to develop and give presentations to groups.
- Periodic travel required; ability to use own vehicle for work‑related travel if an H2M vehicle is not available; flexible schedule with potential nights, weekends, and holidays.
As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations, including respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in नम accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.
Annual compensation for this role is $125,000–$160,000. The employment offer may deviate from this published range based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, specialty, knowledge, education, geography and/or related certifications. The salary or hourly rate indicated does not include other forms of compensation or benefits.
