About the Role

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey seeks an Electrical Engineer to join the Electrical Engineering unit within the Engineering/Architecture Design Division. The role focuses on planning and design for transportation assets such as airports, ports, ferries, tunnels, bridges, rail systems, and bus terminals. Position located at 4 World Trade Center, NYC.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed estimates, design criteria for new construction of electrical projects and for alteration of existing structures and utility systems.
  • Conduct preliminary conceptual design work and plan capital projects and major work programs. Provide design alternatives and associated costs for future planning and funding.
  • Create contract documents – drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and purchase orders – that are biddable and constructible within time and budget constraints.
  • Perform engineering design, technical analysis and economic studies; make recommendations ensuring technical integrity, safety, efficient operation, maintainability and sound economics.
  • Coordinate projects with other design disciplines, line department facilities and outside entities (manufacturers, utilities, consulting engineers and contractors) to minimize disruption of normal facility operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art technology and equipment such as power distribution systems, microprocessor‑based control systems, CAD, lighting, fire, security, UPS, variable speed drives, fiber‑optic network, etc.
  • Prepare design documents in compliance with Code and PA Design guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional engineering experience, primarily in electrical systems design and specification writing for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Design experience with low‑voltage power distribution, lighting systems, and preparation of electrical calculations (equipment sizing, short circuit, voltage drop, load studies) and contract drawings.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Desired Qualifications
  • EIT certification or pursuing a PE license.
  • Knowledge of NYSDEC/NJDEP regulations, NEPA/SEQR, and other applicable standards.
  • Proven problem‑solving, decision‑making, negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • Ability to lead, manage and prioritize multiple assignments across disciplines.
  • Excellent organizational, independent work, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in preparing contract documents, drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong presentation and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Compensation, Benefits & On‑Site Collaboration Requirements

Competitive benefits package and professional environment. Salary range: minimum $93,340, midpoint $121,356, maximum $149,370. Employees may work remotely up to one day per week; in‑person collaboration is generally required.
