Air Traffic Control Radar Engineering Technician Job Description

The field Site Survey positions may require up to 100% travel. Typical Site Surveys will require 4 days of travel: one day to the site, up to two days for inspections and data gathering, and one day travel back to the residence. One to two days to complete the Site Survey Report.

Crown is searching for Air Traffic Control Radar Engineering Technicians with experience in installing and/or maintaining digital Primary Airport Surveillance Radar (DASR) Systems such as FAA ASR-9, ASR-11 models, and FAA Secondary Radar System such as the ATCBI-6/Mode‑S or comparable military primary and secondary radar systems to conduct Site Surveys in preparation for equipment replacement. Military personnel with experience in radar systems focusing on operation, maintenance, and support of sophisticated radar equipment are also eligible to apply.

Responsibilities
  • The Engineering Technician will be responsible for coordinating and conducting site surveys at designated locations throughout the US to evaluate a physical location’s suitability for installations, ensuring all technical, logistical, and safety requirements are met before any installation.
  • The Engineering Technician will gather detailed information about the site’s drawings, maps, charts, infrastructure, environmental conditions, Radar System Replacement solution, identifying cable routing paths and methods, facility power buss connections, and evaluate whether grounding/bonding/lightning protection is adequate and any modifications needed, creating a comprehensive blueprint for installation.
  • The Engineering Technician will document actions to be performed based on information provided by the Government before the survey and information gathered during the survey.
  • The Engineering Technician will provide a Site Survey Report for review by the Site Design, Quality Control, and Safety Risk Management team. The approved report will be provided to the Customer, covering structural components, MEP systems, equipment conditions, network configuration, key findings, and any safety/security/hazard concerns.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in electronics or electronic engineering technology, or equivalent military or FAA or Military training certificates.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in radar signal processing, digital and analog circuits, microprocessors, antenna performance for primary and secondary radar systems, and ability to use diagnostic tools and software.
  • Knowledge of electronics, radar systems, and troubleshooting essential, often gained through formal education or specialized technical training.
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters and signal generators for system maintenance.
  • Ability to analyze facility drawings for accuracy and provide red‑line changes where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools for documenting and creating high‑level reports.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and software, reading electronic schematics and flowcharts.
  • Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust.
