Position: Staff Water Engineer
Location: New York

Staff Water Engineer (Finance) Role Description

We are searching for a Staff Water Engineer to support and grow our Water team in New York, NY. This candidate will use their expertise and technical knowledge to deliver design work for water/wastewater clients in New York and across North America.

Role Accountabilities

As a Staff Water Engineer you will evaluate, plan, design, and support management of stormwater and resiliency projects including drainage planning, green infrastructure design, and flood mitigation systems. You will exercise judgement on work details and preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Completing technical analyses and report writing with guidance from more senior team members will be a key part of your role.

You will perform fieldwork activities such as site visits, construction observation, sampling, water quality analyses, asset inventory, and flow monitoring set‑up and monitoring. You will support professional engineering services during construction including review of shop drawings, responses to requests for information (RFIs), and permit closeouts.

Managing tasks as a project resource, completing allocated activities to meet budget, timeframe, and quality objectives and meeting or exceeding client expectations will be expected. You will need to carry out investigations and analyses to support the development of technical solutions, and prepare documentation and reports ensuring accuracy and compliance with Arcadis requirements and relevant national standards and codes of practice.

In this role you will liaise with project managers/team leaders and clients to ensure effective communication on project matters. You will also contribute to the resolution of technical issues and provide technical guidance to other team members, collaborating with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design or solution. Part of your responsibilities will be to review completed engineering work to ensure it meets specified standards and to further develop understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, the client's business and the industry sector.

Skills and Abilities
  • Detail oriented with knowledge of relevant national standards and codes of practice.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and mentor junior staff.
  • Advanced data gathering, technical writing and analysis skills.
  • Developing skills including technical, project management, relationship management, sector expertise and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, time management and communication skills.
Qualifications & Experience Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering AND EIT Certification.
Preferred

Skills:

  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or other design software.
  • Experience with stormwater management calculations and green infrastructure design.
  • Familiarity with computer programming tools like SQL, Python, or Ruby.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, particularly using SWMM and/or ICM along with proficiency in GIS.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $95,000 - $105,000.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
