Compensation: $110k – $200k + Equity
This role is a senior mechanical engineering position responsible for leading product-level mechanical design from concept through mass production.
As the Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will own the mechanical architecture of consumer hardware products, prototype rapidly, collaborate with overseas manufacturing partners, and set the bar for mechanical engineering quality and best practices.
If you have deep experience in consumer electronics, strong hands-on prototyping skills, and the ability to balance rigor with startup speed, this role offers significant ownership and long-term leadership potential.
Lead Mechanical Design – Drive design and development of rugged, compact, high-performance hardware from initial concepts to global mass production.
Prototype Rapidly – Build, test, and iterate using 3D printing, machining, and pre-production methods across all development stages.
Establish Best Practices – Define documentation standards, testing processes, and design guidelines to elevate engineering quality.
Supplier Collaboration – Work directly with overseas tooling and molding partners, including on-site support in China for DFM, tooling validation, and production optimization.
Hands-On Debugging – Troubleshoot molding parameters, evaluate production issues, and ensure finishing quality during builds.
Reliability Ownership – Create and run reliability test plans; determine what should be tested and how.
Cross-Functional Partnership – Collaborate with industrial design, electrical engineering, firmware, and manufacturing teams for well-balanced product development.
Innovate in Wearables & IoT – Advance integration techniques for antennas, waterproofing, and device miniaturization.
10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in high-volume consumer electronics, wearables, or IoT products
.Strong fundamentals in plastic and metal part design
, with Solid Works CAD preferred.Hands-on experience with injection molding, die casting, machining, stamping, adhesives, and MIM
.Deep prototyping experience using 3D printing, machining, and other rapid validation methods.
Proven success collaborating with overseas suppliers, including on-site work and cross-cultural communication.
Strong analytical ability using FEA, engineering calculations, and judgment to predict performance before prototyping.
Experience creating and executing reliability and validation testing for consumer electronics.
End-to-end product ownership, from industrial design integration through sustaining engineering.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, making smart tradeoffs between speed and rigor.
