A Snapshot of Your Day
This role will set the trajectory for the materials research and development department within the compression business. You will learn and advance the metallurgical state of the art within Siemens Energy, develop future technologies, and share existing knowledge and best practices for material selection, manufacturing, corrosion prediction, and failure analysis. You will serve as a technical lead for both internal and external discussions, participate as a representative in industry technical committees, and solve material‑related challenges across new equipment, aftermarket, procurement, manufacturing, and engineering departments.
A drive to improve existing technologies while leveraging historical experience is critical for this role to thrive.
- Develop and execute the materials technical roadmap to support business growth, ensuring future readiness and skill development within the expert community.
- Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and R&D to create innovative, high‑performance products that support the compression business.
- Serve as the key contact for management regarding technical topics within the Materials Engineering community.
- Engage in external conferences and publish insights while maintaining global technical responsibility in the community.
- Enhance reliability and performance of rotating and pressure‑containing equipment.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in metallurgy or a Senior Metallurgist with demonstrated expertise in high‑strength low alloy steel, stainless steel, and nickel‑based alloys. Strong knowledge of material selection, corrosion protection, surface coatings, non‑metallic sealing materials, and failure analysis is required. Candidates with more experience may be considered for a more senior level.
- Ability to foster collaboration across product lines and research and development groups to drive innovative product development.
- Challenge the status quo by pushing technology forward and preparing for future operational tasks.
- Maintain connections with experts and clients in the Materials Engineering communities to enhance interdisciplinary understanding and create connections between topics.
