Interconnection Engineer (DG Solar + BESS)Location: New York City (In-Office)
Experience: 2–5 years
Compensation: $95,000 – $115,000 base + performance bonus
This is a rare opportunity to sit side-by-side with a Director of Engineering at a fast-growing distributed generation developer and make interconnection a competitive advantage, not a bottleneck.
The company is a small, high-impact DG platform operating across the Northeast and Midwest. Historically solar-focused, they’re now scaling energy storage — and they need an Interconnection Engineer who can take real ownership of applications, studies, utilities, and cost reviews.
If you enjoy responsibility, technical judgment, and being trusted early, this role is built for you.
The OpportunityYou’ll become the go-to interconnection expert - managing everything from application submission through study review and cost true-up.
You will:
- Own all utility interconnection communications and deadlines
- Track applications submitted by origination and ensure technical accuracy
- Review screening results and system impact studies
- Identify grid constraints early and propose practical mitigation strategies
- Challenge and validate utility cost estimates
- Translate technical findings into clear development recommendations
- Work closely with design engineers on SLDs and assumptions
- Support portfolio-level planning and grid strategy decisions
- Help build repeatable processes as the platform scales
This role is intentionally designed to give you real leverage and visibility, not busywork.
Who Thrives HereYou don’t need decades of experience — but you do need:
- A strong foundation in electrical engineering or power systems
- 2–5 years exposure to DG solar, storage, or distribution-level work
- Comfort reading single-line diagrams and study results
- Curiosity about how the grid actually behaves in the real world
- Confidence asking questions, pushing back, and thinking critically
A bias toward ownership and follow-through
If you’re someone who learns quickly, wants to grow fast, and prefers responsibility over hand-holding, you’ll do very well here.
Why Engineers Like This Role- High ownership early — you’re trusted with meaningful decisions
- Direct access to leadership — learn by doing, not waiting
- Solar + BESS exposure at a critical growth stage
- Clear impact — your work directly affects timelines, costs, and feasibility
- Room to grow as the platform scales
This is the kind of role where strong engineers level up quickly.
Compensation & Support- Bonus: Performance-based annual bonus tied to contribution and milestones
- Ongoing support for learning, training, and technical depth
