Nucor, North America’s largest steel manufacturer, is seeking a talented and ambitious professional to design safe, accurate, and cost‑effective structural open‑web steel joist girders, joists, and steel deck at the Chemung, NY plant.
As a structural design engineer you will collaborate with estimating, sales, detailing, project management, finance, production, and shipping to ensure project success. You will also engage with engineers and architects in the Northeast construction market and visit job sites.
Responsibilities- Review contract documents and note important information
- Effectively communicate unique design requirements to the detailing department
- Use design software to safely and accurately design open‑web steel joists and joist girders
- Understand and communicate the properties and specific uses of steel floor and roof deck
- Engineer small unique projects within our plants to keep us operating at a competition‑leading rate
- Work closely with all departments to grow as an engineer
- Meet with engineers and architects in the Northeast construction market to discuss product advantages and team processes
- Visit job sites to better understand the construction process
Salary range: $82,014 – $99,694 per year, depending on experience and PE status, plus an annual ROA bonus (up to 33%) and a profit‑sharing bonus (average 15.29%).

Minimum Qualifications- BS in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related discipline from an ABET‑accredited program (or ability to acquire within 12 months)
- Pass result on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or ability to pass before starting employment
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a structural or civil engineer
- Engineering experience for at least 2 years
- PE license or desire, ability, and dedication to obtain a license
- Willingness and ability to relocate for future promotional leadership opportunities within Nucor
