The Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering Technology (MMET) department at Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Engineering Technology (CET) seeks an exceptional candidate for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to support the Mechatronics, Robotics & Manufacturing, and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs. The role emphasizes teaching, publishing, and externally funded research in Mechatronics, Robotics Systems, and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML).
KeyExpertise Areas
- Mechatronic Systems:
Design, analysis, and control of systems integrating mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering principles. - Control Theory and Applications: PID controllers, state‑space control, and advanced control techniques for mechatronic and robotic systems.
- Sensors and Actuators:
Position, force/torque, encoders, motors, pneumatic/hydraulic actuators. - Embedded Systems:
Microcontrollers, real‑time operating systems, firmware, PLCs. - Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence:
Data‑driven modeling, pattern recognition, predictive maintenance, intelligent control strategies; proficiency in ML/AI tools and frameworks. - Biom… integration with biomechanics, biomechanics, and rehabilitation robotics.
- Industrial/Manufacturing
Experience:

- Teaching:
Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses, labs integrating AI/ML; curriculum development; student engagement via activity‑based pedagogical strategies; professional development in teaching. - Research:
Conduct research in a defined focus area related to mechatronics and AI/ML; secure external funding; publish in peer‑reviewed journals; research topics include intelligent mechatronic system design, AI‑driven control systems, digital twin technologies, predictive analytics. - Service:
Contribute to department, college, and university through committee work; maintain professional development agenda.
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Micro‑Electronics, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to teach in Mechatronics system design, instrumentation, sensors, or applied control systems.
- Strong publication record in reputable peer‑reviewed journals.
- Experience securing external research funding (desirable).
- Industrial experience (desirable).
