Energy Management Solutions is hiring a technically driven Energy Auditor who can concentrate on what matters most: accurate diagnostics and building performance analysis.

We're seeking someone with real building knowledge—whether you earned it as a certified auditor OR through years in the trades. If you understand how buildings work and prefer data, measurements, and technical accuracy over sales pressure, this role is for you.

• Perform comprehensive building diagnostics using specialized equipment—blower doors, thermal imaging cameras, combustion analyzers, manometers, and more
• Conduct blower door tests and combustion safety testing to identify air leakage and building performance issues
• Inspect and evaluate building envelopes, mechanical systems, and process systems to determine energy consumption
• Apply building science principles to diagnose building performance issues and safety concerns
• Perform thermal boundary analysis and detect air leakage
• Identify any health or safety issues related to planned weatherization projects

• Utilize energy modeling software for audit data entry and comprehensive analysis
• Analyze energy bills to establish baselines for energy consumption
• Quantify energy efficiency measures based on diagnostic findings
• Prepare detailed audit reports with energy analysis results and recommended improvements
• Create job specification workscopes for home energy improvements (attic insulation, air sealing, heating system upgrades)

• Ensure all audits meet energy program requirements and documentation standards
• Verify income eligibility of participants in publicly financed weatherization programs
• Provide clear, factual explanations of diagnostic findings to homeowners
• Coordinate with sales team on recommended improvements and project specifications

Must have one of the following:

• Certified Energy Auditor (BPI, RESNET, etc.) with 2+ years experience
• Insulation installer with extensive building envelope knowledge
• HVAC technician with combustion and ventilation experience
• Journey-level carpenter, electrician, or building trades professional
• Experienced construction professional with residential building background

• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed)
• Comfortable working in attics, crawlspaces, and basements
• Strong attention to detail and technical problem‑solving skills
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on ladders
• Computer proficiency and willingness to learn new software
• Solid understanding of building framework (studs, joists, trusses, soffits, building envelopes)
• Proficient in math to calculate square footage and surface area

• Proven experience as an Energy Auditor
• Experience with NYSERDA programs (EmPower+, HPwES)
• Knowledge of Air Source Heat Pumps
• Experience with energy audit software
• Knowledge of building codes/ASHRAE standards
• Environmental or Building Science degree

• Have deep hands‑on building knowledge (whether from auditing or trades)
• Enjoy diagnosing problems more than persuading people
• Prefer data, measurements, and documenting your analysis and findings
• Take pride in technical accuracy and compliance
• Like working independently once you've mastered the systems

Starting Salary: $40,000 plus Commission (commensurate with experience)

Location: Report to Valley Cottage office, work throughout our service area

• Office‑based with daily field work at residential properties
• Typical schedule:
  
  Monday‑Friday with occasional weekend availability for scheduled trade and home shows
• Exposure to various weather conditions and building environments
• All diagnostic equipment and tools are provided
