Job Summary:
SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Adjunct Biology (Part-Time). Reporting to the Science and Math Department Chair, the adjunct faculty must be willing and able to commit to delivering well-prepared lessons; holding weekly on-site office hours; engaging in regular and timely communication with students and staff via college email; developing and following clear and transparent grading practices; adhering to college and department policies;
and submitting requested grades, records, and academic paperwork by posted deadlines.
The scheduled classes for this position include Introduction to Biology and possibly Principles of Biology.
All faculty are expected to encourage students to think critically and analyze information as well as model professional ethical behavior which inspires achievement and leadership.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Biology or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred; or Bachelor's degree in Biology and 6 years or more experience in the field
- Teaching experience, preferably in the community college setting
- Excellent interpersonal skills as necessary for working with diverse groups of people with varying backgrounds and learning styles
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to and effectively learn new technologies (learning management systems, online tools, etc.)
- Familiarity with a breadth and depth of technologies, as applied to specific classes
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach up to 14 contact hours of general biology courses, as well as potential additional courses related to the applicant's area of professional expertise
- Demonstrate excellence in teaching and possess the ability to effectively interact with a diverse student and employee population
- Hold reliable, student-accessible office hours
- Take part as needed in advising and mentoring students, developing curricula, recruiting students, and attending division and faculty meetings
Salary:
Salary is determined by a candidate's rank at SUNY Sullivan, based on teaching experience, education, etc. The full salary range is $655 to $740 per contact hour/course credit per semester. A comprehensive list of benefits associated with this role is accessible at .
