Position Details

Summer Program – Physical Education Intern (unpaid full‑time internship). You will report to the Directors of the Summer Program within the ADHD and Behavior Disorders Center. The internship provides supervised, hands‑on learning with children with ADHD, ODD, and related behavioral challenges through structured movement and physical activity, while licensed staff maintain responsibility for clinical services.

Schedule

On‑site trainings:

  • 9 am – 5 pm EST
  • Monday, June 22 – Wednesday, June 24 (3 days)
  • Thursday, June 25 – Friday, June 26 (2 days)
  • Monday, June 29 – Tuesday, June 30 (2 days)
  • Wednesday, July 1 (1 day)
  • Thursday, July 2 (1 day)

Program days:

  • Daily 8 am – 4 pm EST
  • Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 31, 2026
Learning Opportunities
  • Exposure to evidence‑based behavioral treatment for ADHD and related disorders in a group program model
  • Observation of licensed clinicians implementing treatment protocols individually and in groups
  • Supervised implementation of foundational behavioral techniques with clients for educational purposes
  • Approximately 30 hours of structured training focused on ADHD and related disorders treatment principles and group adaptation
You Will
  • Attend and actively participate in all required training, preparation, and program sessions
  • Engage fully in educational and training activities and demonstrate openness to feedback
  • Apply skills learned in training during supervised program activities for educational purposes
  • Assist in the development and implementation of structured sports, movement, and recess curriculum for children ages 5–10
  • Lead age‑appropriate physical activities and sports drills in soccer, basketball, and baseball that build motor skills, coordination, and confidence
  • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social interaction through play‑based activities
  • Facilitate pre‑activity discussions focused on rules and procedures and post‑activity discussions to summarize events and address any issues
  • Collaborate with sport leads and program staff to plan activities, manage transitions, and adapt games as needed
  • Demonstrate familiarity with popular children’s sports and playground games (e.g., baseball, soccer, kickball)
You Have
  • Currently pursuing undergraduate or graduate‑level study in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, education, child development, or a related field, or equivalent experience in youth sports or recreation programs
  • Experience working or volunteering with children or adolescents in a structured setting
  • Ability to commit to all required training dates and the full duration of the Summer Program

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to handle conflict and sensitive information with discretion
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work collaboratively with families, clinicians, senior leadership, and staff
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and proactive, with the ability to manage tasks efficiently and adapt to patient needs
  • Team‑player with strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
