FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Since its founding in 1847, The City College of New York (CCNY) has been true to its legacy of access, opportunity, and transformation. To respond to the increasing demand for a workforce equipped to meet the sustainability challenges of the 21st century, The City College of New York offers the Sustainability in the Urban Environment graduate program, offering a Master of Science Degree and an Advanced Certificate in Urban Sustainability.

This innovative, hybrid, and interdisciplinary program draws upon emerging approaches in the disciplines of architecture, engineering, science, and social sciences. The program reports directly to the CCNY Provost’s Office, and academic offerings draw across four CCNY divisions and schools:
The Division of Science, The Grove School of Engineering, The Spitzer School of Architecture, and The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership.

The Sustainability in the Urban Environment Program seeks a full-time Lecturer to instruct core and elective courses in the Program and mentor capstone research projects. The Lecturer will report directly to the Sustainability Program’s Director. The Lecturer will have primary responsibility for teaching and for research project oversight with a focus on Life-Cycle Assessment. The lecturer may contribute to the overall academic development of graduate students.

The lecturer position has an annual 24-hour teaching credit workload per 9-month academic year. They will teach three courses per semester with additional administrative reassigned time for oversight of multiple capstone projects.

Additional Program and school service work is required. Lecturers receive a certificate of continuous employment (contractual tenure) upon their sixth-year reappointment.

The appointment will start in the Fall 2026 semester. Given the 9-month teaching appointment, Lecturers enjoy summers off to engage in scholarly activities such as research and paid adjunct teaching, and personal time off.

  • Propose at least three capstone research projects per semester in relevant areas of expertise. These can be based on personal research interests or partner with outside organizations. Interdisciplinary student teams of 2 to 4 students select projects from a portfolio of CCNY faculty offerings.
