School Librarian

Salary Range: 67, annually, commensurate with education and experience

We are seeking an Upper School Librarian who enjoys working with young adults to join our active, enthusiastic team of librarians. The ideal candidate will have proficiency with technology, knowledge of information literacy, enthusiasm for young adult literature, and a passion for working in a school library.

Responsibilities Teaching and Curriculum Planning
  • Provides U.S. library instruction and prepares all necessary instructional materials
  • Assists students with the use of library resources, including print, electronic, and emerging technologies
  • Prepare research‑based lesson plans for integration projects with core subjects
  • Curate collections of texts, reference sources, and databases tailored for course projects
  • Collaborate with Upper School faculty to design research projects that strengthen future‑ready skills, information literacy, and the ethical use of AI
  • Contribute to and adopt a Pre‑Kindergarten through Grade 12 scope and sequence of library instruction and skill benchmarks
Student and Library Supervision
  • Supervise Upper School students throughout the day and after school, maintaining an environment conducive to learning and quiet study
  • Manage the library space to ensure it remains neat, well‑organized, and welcoming
  • Prepare engaging collection displays and other promotional materials to encourage student interest
  • Responsible for closing the library daily
Readers Advisory
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of young adult and adult literature with an enthusiasm for recommending books to students and staff
  • Facilitate the Faculty and Staff Book Club
Administrative and Collection Management
  • Manage circulation duties, including check‑ins/outs, periodic reports, and tracking overdue or lost materials
  • Develop and update policies regarding collection development, skill scaffolding, and library protocols
  • Process new library materials (physical and digital) and assist with cataloging
  • Maintain the online catalog, perform routine shelving/shifting, and carry out weeding (de‑selection) processes in alignment with the Collection Development Policy
  • Manage the annual import of patron records and maintain database accuracy
  • Assist students and faculty with printing, resource access, and institutional subscription renewals
Technology, Media, and Digital Literacy
  • Proficiency in using Google Suite
  • Working knowledge of basic and advanced query techniques
  • Proficient understanding, ability, and interest in emerging technologies
  • Maintain and develop the library website and auxiliary digital programming
Community Activities
  • Participate in library department, faculty, and all‑school meetings, as well as professional development days
  • Be open and willing to engage in additional community‑building opportunities and school activities
Requirements
  • Master’s in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA‑accredited institution
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with adolescent students in a library setting
  • Basic knowledge of and experience with web design and coding; high proficiency in digital research tools
