Teacher of Physical Education

The Brearley School, an independent girls’ school serving over 770 students K-XII, seeks a Teacher of Physical Education for a full-time, ongoing position beginning August 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching a full-time complement of courses in the K-12 Physical Education curriculum, which includes fitness, wellness, and sports
  • Coaching the equivalent of two varsity seasons in the Middle and/or Upper School athletic program
  • Implementing an inclusive, anti‑bias, and anti‑racist pedagogy
  • Participating in and/or leading grade‑level team planning meetings with PE colleagues
  • Prioritizing the safety of students and athletes in all settings
  • Helping to plan and execute school‑wide events hosted by the PE and Athletics Departments
Qualifications
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in the subject area; a graduate degree in Physical Education preferred
  • Have at least three years of experience in teaching Physical Education
  • Have experience in and enthusiasm for coaching student athletes
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop and adapt pedagogy, curriculum, and assessments for students with a range of skill levels and learning styles
  • Show a commitment to helping girls think independently and develop confidence in their own abilities
  • Possess excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Be able to articulate how one's identity plays a role in the classroom and on the field and model inclusive behavior in all settings
Benefits

In , the total salary for this position ranges from $80,000 to $161,900 depending on years of full‑time K–12 teaching experience. Benefits offered to eligible employees include a range of options for health insurance coverage with generous employer contributions across the plans; an HSA plan; pre‑tax transit benefits; long‑term disability insurance; a retirement plan that includes a school contribution starting at 10% of salary with no mandatory employee contribution;

a sabbatical program; breakfast and lunch without charge; support for professional growth and development; and the opportunity to participate in a community based on collaboration, mutual care, and a commitment to the greater good. Faculty may also apply for housing in a nearby Brearley‑owned building at favorable rates. Brearley recently announced a “Free Tuition” program for families with incomes of $100,000 or less and without significant assets.
