Position Details
The Dean of the School of Business and Information Systems provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the School, encompassing its academic departments, programs, faculty, and curricular affairs. Key responsibilities include overseeing academic planning and budgeting, developing new programs aligned with student demand and evolving industry needs, ensuring program accreditation, recruiting and evaluating faculty, and fostering partnerships with internship sites, industry stakeholders, and other CUNY colleges.
This position reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean will collaborate with faculty, department and program leaders, other deans, the Provost, and the President to represent the School in university-wide initiatives. They will also provide leadership in securing grant funding, managing sponsored programs, and maintaining accreditation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering academic excellence, enhancing student success, and aligning the School’s initiatives with institutional priorities and workforce needs.
- Academic Excellence and Program Quality
- Promoting academic excellence through scholarly development, curriculum innovation, and student success initiatives.
- Ensuring academic programs meet the highest standards of quality and effectiveness through rigorous assessment and continuous improvement.
- Overseeing systems and processes to maintain academic integrity and rigor, including program assessment, review, departmental planning, and accreditation activities.
- Program Development and Accreditation
- Developing and implementing annual and periodic assessments, program reviews, and accreditation plans for the School and its academic programs and departments.
- Collaborating with Business faculty to achieve and maintain AACSB accreditation.
- Leading the development of new academic programs within the School of Business and Information Systems.
- Partnerships and Collaboration
- Providing leadership in establishing partnerships that align with the strategic goals of the College and University.
- Reviewing and developing articulation agreements with CUNY and non-CUNY community colleges to align with the School's degree offerings.
- Building support from students, faculty, administrators, community members, and stakeholders to advance research, outreach, and service initiatives.
- Faculty Leadership and Development
- Guiding faculty recruitment, retention, and professional development.
- Developing and implementing research, outreach, and service initiatives to enhance faculty and student opportunities.
- Engaging with students, faculty, administrators, community members, and service providers across various settings.
- Resource Development and Support
- Providing leadership in securing grant funding and philanthropic support for faculty and student initiatives within the School.
- Supporting initiatives to ensure the School’s growth and alignment with institutional and regional needs.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College. An earned doctorate (or equivalent) degree and academic credentials for a tenured professorial appointment at the rank of Professor in an appropriate academic department is required for this position.
