Assistant Professor - Leadership in Education
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
The Department of Educational Studies, in the School of Education at the College of Staten Island (CSI) of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a faculty position in the Post Masters Advanced Certificate Program for Leadership in Education. The Assistant Professor position is to begin in August 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of graduate level courses in leadership designed to prepare qualified candidates for leadership positions in schools in New York State, with an emphasis on effective leadership in urban schools. Upon successful completion of the certificate program, students will have met the statutory requirements of the New York State Department of Education for certification as a school and district leader.
All students move through the course of studies with a cohort.
The candidate will also supervise and mentor teacher candidates during fieldwork, assist with program assessment, accreditation activities, and curriculum development.
Participation in department, school, and college committees is required, working collaboratively with faculty and school partners. An active research agenda is encouraged.
QualificationsDoctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in an education-related field. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred qualifications include:
- 3 years of supervisory experience as a school administrator
- Familiarity with the educational system in NYC, New York State, and across the country
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence of teaching and ongoing professional growth / scholarship.
- Commitment to constructivist teaching and justice and diversity
$82,663 - $86,741
Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Salaries will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
