About Inwood Academy for LeadershipInwood Academy for Leadership Charter School is a tuition‑free public charter school that began as an idea among community members who longed to see more educational choices offered to the children of Washington Heights and Inwood. All staff must be willing to commit to our mission: empowering students in Inwood and Washington Heights to become agents for change through community‑focused leadership, character development and college preparedness.
Reports To: Site Director
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in related fields is required; a Master’s degree is preferred
- 3+ years of experience teaching in an urban school setting
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varied needs
- General understanding and experience in educational administration
- Training and knowledge of instructional coaching
- Build, maintain, and partner with staff, parents, and other administrators
- Promote the Highly Reliable Schools framework; specifically Level 2:
Effective Teaching in Every Classroom - Utilize the Science of Learning – research‑based instructional practices at the core of coaching
- Continuously research best practices and align coaching with current research through books, articles, podcasts
- Use data to support teachers in making informed instructional decisions
- Identify goals for each teacher and ensure their growth throughout the year
- Internalize curriculum protocols and provide resources and training as needed
- Prioritize classroom improvement by visiting classrooms daily and following up on teacher development goals
- Participate in school planning and decision‑making to align instruction with overall improvement plans
- Effectively use student achievement data to set and monitor goals, implement interventions, and evaluate progress
Staff Coaching & Development:
- Conduct regular classroom observations and deliver targeted, actionable feedback to teachers
- Utilize multiple data sources to evaluate teachers’ strengths and weaknesses, aligning feedback with student achievement goals
- Collaborate with teachers and subjects/grade teams to co‑plan units, lessons, and assessments, sharing ongoing feedback
- Provide job‑embedded professional development opportunities, including facilitating department and content meetings
- Partner with the Site Director to identify teachers requiring additional support and develop Teacher Improvement Plans (TIPs)
- Mentor by modeling best teaching practices and sharing research‑based strategies
- Onboard and support new teachers throughout the year to ensure successful integration into the community
Data-Driven Instruction:
- Analyze school‑wide data to design responsive interventions for students and targeted teacher support
- Conduct detailed data analysis to lead effective meetings, guiding teachers in using data for instructional decisions
- Develop and implement action plans based on assessment data, including administering and scoring benchmarks and other assessments
- Track grade‑level or content‑area progress and provide oversight of student achievement with teachers and academic teams
- Oversee the state testing cycle, ensuring quality control of materials and coordination with operations for smooth execution
Curriculum and Instructional Resource Management:
- Oversee alignment of the school’s curriculum and assessments with state and district standards
- Ensure equitable access to critical content by supporting teachers in pacing and prioritizing objectives
- Manage the curriculum budget to allocate resources effectively while maintaining cost efficiency
- Collaborate with the operations team to oversee ordering, distribution, and organization of curricular materials and maintain an efficient tracking system
