2026-27 Elementary School Assistant Principal of Humanities – Bronx, NY
Brilla Schools, a growing K-8 network in the Bronx, serves over 2,000 students with plans to expand. Managed by Seton Education Partners, Brilla Schools focus on a classical, inquiry-driven curriculum and virtues. Brilla alumni have earned substantial scholarships nationwide. This role reports to the Principal and focuses on Humanities, instructional leadership, and school culture, with responsibility for Tier 2/3 behavior systems and collaboration with the Student Services team.
Position OverviewThe Elementary School Assistant Principal (AP) of Humanities executes the Principal’s Strategic Priorities, provides coaching and support to meet the needs of a cohort, and supports the planning and execution of academic and cultural initiatives and programming focused on Humanities. The AP supervises school-wide behavior systems (Tier 2/3) in collaboration with leadership and Student Services, ensuring processes meet student needs.
The AP directly supervises a caseload of teachers. Together with other Instructional Leadership Team members, the AP supports teachers by reviewing assessment data, identifying instructional strategies to meet Tier 1–3 needs, facilitating collaboration among grade-level/content teams, observing classrooms, providing live coaching feedback, and reinforcing standards and expectations for instructional excellence.

Core Competencies & Responsibilities- Instructional Leadership
- Model understanding of instructional best practices and elementary Humanities content
- With Network Curriculum and Instruction support, implement curriculum that inspires critical thinking, scholar growth, and virtues
- Conduct regular classroom observations, coach, and provide feedback to develop instructional practice for high student achievement
- Plan, facilitate, and attend regular programming (leadership meetings, network AP meetings, IEP meetings, professional development, data days, family conferences, etc.)
- Analyze student data to inform strategy, professional development, and instructional adjustments
- Create and facilitate weekly professional development aligned to campus goals
- Talent Management
- Collaborate with team members and network partners
- Assist principal with interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new staff
- Support bi-annual performance evaluation conversations
- Monitor staff professionalism and ensure completion of deadlines and data submissions
- Conduct bi-weekly coaching meetings with teachers based on student data

- Familiarity with the Classical liberal arts tradition
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s preferred)
- Two years teaching in an urban school with demonstrated student achievement in Humanities
- One year leading/coaching a team of adults (preferably in a charter setting)
- Experience with Core Knowledge (preferred)
- Special Education credential and experience (preferred)
- Proficiency in Spanish (preferred)
