POSITION
Teacher Assistant —
Hours:
8:15a-3:15p (32.5 hours) Monday - Friday, 10-Month Position, ½ hour lunch daily. Four times per year Thursday 3:15-4:15p.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the teacher in the classroom.
- Work with small groups or individual students as directed by the teacher using specified materials.
- Assist in the physical care of the students and/or classroom as needed by situation and department (including feeding, dressing, toileting, ambulation as needed).
- Prepare instructional materials as directed.
- Perform clerical duties necessary for efficient functioning of the class, for example:
- Obtain supplies
- Computer and/or library for research
- Obtain media equipment, cameras, tapes, etc.
- Correct papers
- Type classroom materials and use computer/library for research
- Write/type classroom materials
- Help to maintain orderly procedure during fire drills.
- Assist outside the classroom by accompanying students and assisting in all out of class activities; participate on class trips as directed; may accompany children home in emergency or crises situations.
- Assume supportive duty assignments as assigned.
- Substitute as needed for on-site teacher meetings, staff development, etc. as directed by supervisor and/or principal.
- Supervise breakfast/lunch/recess programs as required in the department.
- Accompany/assist students to all activities and programs as directed.
RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interact effectively (speech/sign) with students throughout the school day.
- Foster an atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Assist teacher by observing student behavior and keeping behavior logs/charts.
- Form a resource pool as needed to cross department lines.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- 2. Any additional duties as assigned not to exceed 5% of duties listed above.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Certification
- Teacher Aide
High School Diploma
Temporary teaching license (Valid for one year)
Teacher Assistant
Level IIHigh School Diploma
6 semester hours
1 year experience under a Temporary or Continuing License, or Level I certificate
Level IIIHigh School Diploma
18 semester hours
1 year experience under a Temporary or Continuing License, or Level I certificate, or Level II certificate
2. Communication Skills
Ability to use Total Communication, and code switch dependent on individual student needs.

- Teacher Assistant - $36,234.00 - $45,916.00
- Teacher Aide - $29,558.00 - $37,949.00
