Assistant Professor - Curriculum & Instruction
RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
The Department of Curriculum & Instruction, in the School of Education at the College of Staten Island (CSI) of the City University of New York (CUNY), invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at the Assistant Professor level, to begin in August 2026.
The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for the TESOL PreK-12 education program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of courses in linguistics, bilingualism / bilingual education, literacy, and assessment. The candidate will also supervise and mentor teacher candidates during fieldwork and student teaching, assist with program assessment, accreditation activities, and curriculum development.
Participation in department, school, and college committees is required, working collaboratively with faculty and school partners. An active research agenda is encouraged.
QUALIFICATIONSQualifications
Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education (or closely related field)
Preferred qualifications include:
- Minimum three years teaching experience in TESOL education in PreK-12 schools.
- Minimum three years experience in supervising and mentoring pre-service teacher candidates in TESOL or bilingual education.
- Experience teaching literacy/reading or supporting multilingual learners, students with disabilities (SWDs), or English language learners (ELLs).
- Knowledge of current theories and practices in second language acquisition, sociocultural perspectives, and translanguaging pedagogies.
- Familiarity with curricula, materials, and instructional practices at both the elementary and secondary levels.
- Knowledge of assessment practices for ELLs and SWDs.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence of teaching and ongoing professional growth / scholarship.
- Strong commitment to justice, multilingualism, and culturally sustaining pedagogies for conventionally disadvantaged learners.
- Proficiency in a language other than English (preferably one commonly spoken by NYC public school students).
$82,663 - $86,741
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
