Overview
The Fine Arts department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions teaching courses in the area of Painting and Drawing. Successful candidates will possess the ability to share extensive knowledge of art history and contemporary practices, approaches, and movements in art. Specialization in a cross-cultural approach to curriculum development is encouraged. Strong candidates will foster an inclusive classroom learning environment with nondiscriminatory teaching methods towards learning difference, race, ethnicity, gender expression, sexuality, physical ability, socioeconomic, or immigration status.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions- Provide guidance, input and assistance to students in their painting and drawing projects.
- Encourage creativity and critical thinking while fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Submit grades for assignments, projects and coursework promptly and accurately.
- Maintain attendance, and organized records of student performance and progress throughout the course.
- Fulfill administrative responsibilities, including office hours and participation in department meetings and committees as required.
- Ensure a safe community learning environment including the proper use of artists' materials and equipment within the classroom/studio.
Adjunct instructors deliver relevant course material, assess student performance, provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time. Course descriptions are available online for AAS and BFA courses. We also offer non-major Fine Art courses listed in the online catalog.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor of Fine Arts degree
- Relevant 6 years of industry experience and/or its equivalent.
- At least one year of teaching experience at the college level.
- Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent.
- Comprehensive expertise in painting and drawing concepts, processes, and materials.
- Strong understanding of structural form beyond image making.
- Ability to teach visual concepts and ensure safe use of tools and the studio.
- Ability to communicate historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts and contemporary painting/drawing practices through lectures and visual presentations.
- Ability to write a syllabus, teach learning outcomes, deliver course materials with lectures and demonstrations, guide students, assess performance, and submit grades in a timely manner.
- Effective communication with classroom technicians.
This is a part-time adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. The department will keep this posting open to create a pool of candidates for potential future adjunct assignments. The department will contact applicants whose qualifications fit our programmatic needs.
CompensationThe UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) governs the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment.
$89.98 per hour, based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step and appointment rank are determined by a candidate's ability to demonstrate that they meet the respective school's additional criteria for hiring "above the first step," in accordance with the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules (pp. 88-89).
