Position Information

Position Title: Sterile Processing Technician Instructor

Department: Workforce Development

Work Hours: Evenings and/or weekend mornings

Advertised Salary: $45 per hour

Status: Part‑time instructor

General Description

SUNY Niagara’s Division of Workforce Development is seeking a part‑time instructor to teach a Sterile Processing Technician course. The course consists of 88 hours of instruction: 64 hours in classroom sessions and 24 hours of small group clinical portions, typically conducted on weekends and/or evenings after 5 p.m. The exact course days and times will be negotiated upon hire.

Typical Work Activities
  • Provide the Workforce Development supervisor with active input in course development, including course descriptions, syllabus, textbook recommendations, and equipment review.
  • Create and revise weekly lesson plans.
  • Teach the course in the assigned program areas.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress.
  • Return graded assignments within 88 hours to students or to Workforce Development.
  • Prepare students for the Certification Exam (CBSPD).
  • Submit course materials, student attendance, and bi‑weekly time sheets on time.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with healthcare facilities for clinical demonstrations and practice of sterile processing techniques.
  • Build relationships with other healthcare facilities to promote placement of graduates.
  • Complete other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Essential Functions

Ability to work with, relate to and train a diverse population; speak in front of groups; develop, prepare and present information; read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively orally and in writing; operate computers; physically perform the duties of the position.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of Sterile Processing Technician experience.
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician with certification obtained from either National Certification Board CBSPD or IAHCSMM.
  • Basic knowledge of Zoom, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with the clinical training of Sterile Processing Technicians.
  • Experience with in‑person and remote teaching at the post‑secondary level, or equivalent private industry experience.
License(s)/Certifications

Certified Sterile Processing Technician obtained from either National Certification Board CBSPD or IAHCSMM.
