Teacher Assistant; Substitute-On Call

The On‑Call Teacher Assistant assists the classroom teacher in the absence of the Teacher Assistant in carrying out the academic and behavioral objectives set forth in the child’s IEP by providing direct instructional services to students and performing non‑teaching support duties under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

• Assumes primary responsibility for the class in the absence of the teacher.
• If bilingual, works with Spanish‑dominant children to create an “alternative placement” for those who need a bilingual placement.
• Works with individual pupils or groups on special instructional projects or assignments.
• Collects and prepares instructional materials as directed by the teacher.
• Assists with crisis intervention and classroom supervision.

• Teacher Assistant – NY State Certification – Teacher Assistant.
• AA or equivalent in Early Childhood/Special Education.
• Must obtain an AA or equivalent within 1 year of hire.

• Communicate clearly and effectively.
• Stand, use mobility and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally sit, stoop, kneel or crouch.
• Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
