MCNY enrolls approximately 1,000 students annually into its accelerated degree programs with convenient onsite and remote schedules for added flexibility.
The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for assisting students and their families in navigating the financial aid process, including applying for federal, state, and institutional aid. This position requires a strong understanding of financial aid regulations, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to provide accurate guidance on policies, procedures, and available funding options.
Responsibilities- Counsel students and families regarding financial aid eligibility, application procedures, and available aid programs.
- Review and process financial aid applications in compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies.
- Utilize the Power
FAIDS system to manage student records, package aid, and generate reports. - Interpret and apply regulations and policies from the U.S. Department of Education and other governing agencies.
- Monitor student eligibility, satisfactory academic progress, and compliance with financial aid requirements.
- Collaborate with admissions, registrar, and student accounts offices to support student enrollment and retention.
- Assist with outreach activities such as orientations, financial aid workshops, and information sessions.
- Stay current with updates to federal and state regulations, institutional policies, and best practices in financial aid administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, business, finance, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of two years of experience in financial aid or a related area.
- Proficiency with the Power
FAIDS financial aid system required. - Strong knowledge of Department of Education policies and procedures.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to providing high-quality student service with attention to detail and accuracy.
This role requires interaction with students, families, and colleagues in both individual and group settings. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required for special events or peak processing times.
