Medical Training Institute of New York is recruiting for an experienced Adjunct faculty member in the Central Sterile Processing Technician Instructor Program who exhibits strong communication skills and is willing to train students to become Certified Surgical Technologists. Candidates must have experience teaching in a classroom or/and in a synchronous environment and have a minimum of 3 years in the Operating Room.

This Part-time teaching position will begin immediately and provide instruction in the classroom with a laboratory setting. You should be fully committed to the Mission and Values of the Medical Training Institute of New York.

Summary

  • The adjunct faculty member is responsible for providing quality teaching and learning within the Surgical Technologist Program and maintaining established standards of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) in collaboration with full-time and adjunct program faculty. The adjunct faculty member reports to the Program Director.
  • Must be a Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of in-field work experience.
  • Must have an associate degree or higher.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate experience, skills, and commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion in students, faculty, and staff.
Essential Functions

Responsibilities of the Sterile Processing Technician Instructor include, but are not limited to:

General:

  • Demonstrate commitment to the Mission and Objectives of the Medical Training Institute of New York
  • Abide by and support school policies, processes, procedures, and plans.
  • Emulate and hold students and themselves to professional standards in attitude, uniform, and grooming for their industry.
  • Instruction:
  • Provide effective instruction and facilitate student learning for the program.
  • Work with other faculty and administrators to build and/or maintain a curriculum with clear learning objectives. This includes textbook and software selection.
  • Prepare and follow course syllabi.
  • Develop and/or maintain lesson plans for classroom and lab activities.
  • Create supplemental instructional materials.
  • Emphasize employment as the central goal of the program.
  • Teach and require safety as a regular daily component of skill practice.
  • Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in lab, clinical, externship, or other work-based learning activities.
  • Perform evaluations of student learning, using course objectives as a guide.
  • Ensure objective evaluation of student performance.
  • Provide security for assignment keys and testing to avoid cheating.
  • Provide grading scale and calculate grades for high school students.
  • Strive for continuous improvement in student learning.
  • Mentor students, providing regular feedback on progress, with the program's central goal being student success. This includes completing the program, successfully passing any required licensure or certification tests, and placement in related employment.
  • Utilize academic improvement plans, as required, when students fail to perform to minimum standards.
  • Maintain rolls and enter into North Star daily.
  • Update progress in North Star at least monthly or before the course ends.
  • Utilize the Learning Management System and orient new students to it.
  • Understand fundamentals of good hybrid instruction, including mastering new online technologies, finding and creating quality online content for students, modeling digital citizenship, communicating effectively online, and using student performance data to inform instruction.
  • Carefully respect the confidentiality of student information and refrain from discussing or releasing such information except within recognized limits.
  • Respond promptly to student concerns and/or appeals.
Program Activities

  • Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. The method of contact and hours of availability should be communicated to students through the course syllabus each semester. Instructors should respond to student emails or messages within 24 hours on working days.
  • Hold classes as scheduled; notify the Program Director or Coordinator in advance if you are to be absent, and, if possible, arrange for a substitute instructor and assignments for the class. Keep an emergency lesson plan in the classroom for…
