Opportunity Summary
Bronx Arts seeks a Multilingual Language (MLL/ENL) Teacher to promote a positive school culture. The teacher will collaborate with parents, students, and leadership to uphold high expectations, support social, emotional, and cognitive development, and facilitate language acquisition for young children.
Responsibilities
Coordination and Management
- Ensure compliance with laws related to English Language Learners (ELLs), including report completion and confidentiality of student records.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments and state-mandated tests for ELLs.
- Manage processes for identifying students eligible for ELL services and oversee related case management systems.
- Develop reporting systems for ELL programs.
- Coordinate testing and assessments for ELL students.
- Provide professional development to staff on instructional needs of ELL students.
Teaching
- Develop and deliver standards-aligned English instruction, integrating arts when appropriate.
- Create diverse lesson plans using effective teaching methods.
- Enhance students' communication skills across reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records.
- Foster a supportive, accountable, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Personalize instruction for small groups or individuals as needed.
- Maintain discipline and employ varied teaching strategies.
- Maximize instructional time and supervise extracurricular activities as assigned.
Family and Community Relations
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, respecting cultural values.
- Maintain timely communication about student progress and curriculum expectations.
- Collaborate with families and community to support student success and involve volunteers.
- Host mandatory ELL parent orientations with the Director of Student Support Services.
Professionalism
- Enforce school and classroom rules.
- Create an inclusive, responsive classroom environment.
- Participate in team meetings, planning, and professional development.
- Take responsibility for student progress and address setbacks proactively.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and ESOL certification in NYS are mandatory.
- At least three years of experience instructing ELL students, including supervisory roles.
- Knowledge of ELL laws, regulations, and frameworks.
- Proven success in narrowing the achievement gap among ELLs.
- Proficiency with ELL management systems, data tools, and software including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva.
- Strong communication skills for engaging diverse audiences.
