Lead Teacher for a brand-new Goddard School® in Lenox Hill. The two-story, 15,000 sq. ft. school located at 307 East 63rd Street will offer bright classrooms, two multi-purpose rooms, and spaces designed to foster curiosity through play-based activities, teamwork, problem-solving, and a lifelong love of learning. Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum and Instruction:
Implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities using our proprietary Wonder of Learning® curriculum to engage and support each child’s growth - Classroom Management:
Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment - Family Communication:
Maintain open, effective and positive communication with families and guardians about their child’s progress and daily activities - Health and Safety:
Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities to uphold health and safety standards, licensing regulations and ensure their well-being - Professional Development:
Participate actively in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to enhance teaching skills - Assessment and Documentation:
Observe, assess and document children’s learning and development to inform activities and share insights with families - Team
Collaboration:
Support Assistant Teachers and Resource Teachers, fostering a collaborative and positive team environment. - Behavior Guidance:
Model and implement positive guidance strategies to support social-emotional growth and conflict resolution.
A lead teacher in the 2-year-old program MUST hold one of the following qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree and State certification. A baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or a related field of study approved by the Department and valid certification issued by the State Education Department, pursuant to 8 NYCRR 80 or successor rule;
- Baccalaureate degree and experience. A baccalaureate degree in early childhood education or a related field of study approved by the Department and two years of supervised and documented relevant experience in a pre-school program if currently employed in a permitted child care program; OR
- Study plan. The person has proposed a plan for meeting the requirements of paragraph (1) or (2) of this subdivision within seven years, AND has obtained approval of this plan by an accredited college. A person who is eligible pursuant to a study plan shall submit documentation to the Department indicating proof of enrollment in such college and specifying the time, not to exceed seven years, required for completion of the study plan.
The course of study may include the following study areas: sociological/historical/philosophical foundations of education; sociology of education or history of education or philosophy of education; child development or child psychology; educational developmental psychology or psychological foundations of education; instructional materials and methods courses (including courses on reading, math, science, music, art, language arts, and computer technology);
Parent Education and Community Relations or Urban Education or Sociology of the Family or Parent, Child, School. To be study plan eligible, a person shall have an Associate’s degree, ninety or more undergraduate credits with experience teaching young children, or a baccalaureate in another subject with one year of classroom experience.
