Responsibilities

The New School Archives and Special Collections seeks a New School graduate student for a short-term position to assist with production of the Mardi Gras Reboot Festival
, which will take place on February 17-20, 2026. The role will include curating a small exhibition and assisting with coordination, promotions, installation, and administrative tasks involved with producing the festival. 7 hours/week for month of January 2026 plus additional hours prior to and during Festival.

  • Conduct research, create proposal, and realize a mini-exhibition about the original Mardi Gras ball at Parsons, including developing overall concept guided by archives staff, selecting items, placing scan requests, and printing and mounting facsimiles for two or more display cases in the Archives research room on the 7th floor of the University Center.
  • Write text for item labels and wall text, potentially presenting the exhibition in person during Mardi Gras Reboot Festival.
  • Work with staff to prepare social media, digital easels, and press releases promoting Festival
  • Coordinate with participants about scheduling and logistical matters
  • Post fliers and posters around campus
  • Work on installation and deinstallation of Festival projects
  • Coordinate donation of selected student work to Archives.
  • Other tasks, as requested

Hourly Rate: $21/hour

On-Campus Position

Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must commit consistent 7 hour per week schedule beginning in early January 2026, with increased weekly hours prior to the Mardi Gras Reboot Festival (February 9-13), Monday February 16, and Tuesday February 17 (opening day), as well as Friday February 20 (closing day), for deinstallation.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting archival research.
  • Superior writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, while adhering to detailed written and oral workflows, guidelines, and instructions.
  • Ability and willingness to lift 40-pound boxes and climb ladders.
  • Strong and committed work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience mounting historical exhibits
  • Experience with event coordination
