Overview
Adjunct Lecturer, Chemistry — The Chemistry Department at Barnard College seeks a part-time instructor to teach two sections of Introductory Organic Chemistry Lab during the Spring 2026 semester.
Responsibilities- Teaching two sections of an introductory organic chemistry lab course (CHEM BC3328)
- Providing in-lab demonstrations to students
- Supervising students’ in-lab work, providing guidance and feedback
- Grading pre- and post-lab assignments
- Holding office hours (minimum
2) each week - Collaborating with other members of the organic laboratory teaching team to discuss course observations, adjustments, developments, etc.
Pay Rate: $8,745
Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair or Director.
Qualifications- PhD in Chemistry (or related field) required
- Commitment to undergraduate education
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Strong communication skills
- Detail-oriented
- Lab safety training
- Two years of teaching experience required
- Schedule Requirements:
Must be available to teach in evenings (5-9:30 PM) on multiple weekdays - Physical Requirements:
Ability to navigate around lab space throughout duration of lab session (3-4 hours)

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
