Overview
Dover Plains Library - Programmer with Circulation Shifts
Dover Plains Library seeks applicants for a part-time position that includes 8-9 hours of time on the circulation desk plus programming, for a total of 16 - 18 hours per week.
Job Duties- Contributes to a welcoming environment by engaging with library users and helping them connect with resources they need, including library programs
- Advocates for programs and for the Library in the community
- Plans programs for youth and families on weekly and monthly bases and in consultation with Library administrators
- Preps, implements and cleans up after programs
- Circulation duties: included but not limited to checking items in and out, searching the catalog/ databases, locating items on the shelves, requesting items from other libraries, creating new library cards, collecting payments, and shelving items.
- Provides basic tech help to people using the library’s public computers, including but not limited to assisting with printing issues, Microsoft office programs, and email.
- Assists library users with cell phones, tablets and laptops for printing, wifi access, and connecting with e-resources including Libby and hoopla.
- Uses the fax machine, copier and scanner for patrons and helps proctor exams
- Provides reference and reader’s advisory when needed.
- Attends all staff meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned by the library director or assistant director.
- Prior experience running programs for children ages infant to 13
- Ability to respect and socially engage with people of all ages and abilities
- Sense of humor and the ability to roll with it, when, for example, a toddler offers you a booger.
- Understanding of and/or willingness to learn youth development program principles, structure and expectations
- Excellent communication skills orally and in writing
- Experience with or ability to learn Google Drive, Sheets & Documents
- Ability to work some evenings and Saturdays for programs.
- Prior experience with Sierra
- Fluent in Spanish
- 2 shifts at the Circulation Desk; one is set as Fridays 3 - 7. The second is either Tuesdays 3 - 7 or Thursday 10 - 3.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment varies from low to high.
Position:
Part-Time: 16-18 hours per week
Benefits:
Part-time employees accrue paid time off in proportion to hours worked. After a 3-month probationary period, part-time employees are eligible to participate in the Library’s Simple IRA savings program with up to a 3% match by the Library.
