REACH, through a transformative middle school program, empowers high-achieving young men from underserved communities as Catholic leaders committed to faith, scholarship, and service. REACH is a free summer-and-Saturday enrichment program for middle-school boys designed to enhance students’ academic and leadership skills. Through our advanced curriculum, REACH prepares its students to win scholarships and financial aid to the most selective Catholic high schools in the New York City area, including Regis High School.

Regis High School transforms Catholic young men through an academically exceptional Jesuit education in a caring community which inspires leadership, generosity and a lifelong passion for service as Men for Others. Regis is tuition free and merit based, giving special consideration to families in need of financial assistance.

The Opportunity

REACH is seeking motivated young men who are high school juniors and seniors to serve in its summer program as REACH Counselors
. The summer program consists of two sessions. The first session is either 3 weeks overnight at Fordham University or the University of Scranton (July 6– July 25). For all Counselors, the second session is a 3- week day session at Regis High School (July 28 – August 14; weekdays 8:30 am-5:00 pm). Counselors must apply to work an entire 6-week session.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a teaching assistant and support instructor-led academic programming
  • Lead electives, recreational activities, and enrichment programming
  • Support camp administration and daily operations
  • Serve as a positive role model for REACH students
  • Provide guidance and supervision to individual students and student groups
  • Foster student engagement through positive encouragement and motivation
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and professionalism
  • Appreciation for cultural diversity and social maturity
  • Ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and peers
  • Ability to relate effectively to middle school–aged students
  • Strong high school academic record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with middle school–aged students
  • Skills, talents, or interests that may enrich student programming
  • Proficiency in Spanish
Other Expectations
  • Willingness to support and advance the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the school through all interactions
  • Work in collaboration with the administration in observing the principles and ideals for which REACH and Regis High School stands
  • Assume all other duties as assigned by REACH leadership
  • The REACH program expects one to conduct oneself at all times in a manner which shall not bring reproach upon oneself or REACH
  • The job description is to be used merely as a guide of expectations rather than an exhaustive list of all duties and competencies
Compensation & Benefits

This position pays $325.00 a week. Returning counselors are paid a $100 bonus for your commitment to the program. At both Fordham University and the University of Scranton, Counselors are provided with room and board at no cost, as well as round trip transportation.

All interested students must complete the REACH Counselor Supplement, and have a teacher or guidance counselor complete the REACH Counselor Recommendation Form. Returning counselors do not need a recommendation form. In addition, applicants must also have a parent fill out and sign the Parental Consent Form, and email it to the REACH Assistant Director, Mr. Hunt. Email Mr. Hunt directly to receive the Parental Consent Form.
