POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Education, the Youth and Teen Coordinator leads the design and implementation of age-appropriate, safe and fun programming that meets the recreational and safety goals for all age groups at the Summer Camp and Teen Center. This is a hybrid style position, with our Summer Camp on the Silver Bay campus, and our Teen Center in the nearby town of Ticonderoga.
The summer camp is open mid-May through August, the Teen Center is open September through Mid-May.
Directly supervises all Silver Camp and Teen Center staff.
Essential Functions- Leads the design, development and implementation of programs and activities that foster the physical, social and intellectual growth of participants at Silver Camp and the Teen Center.
- Leads the design, development and implementation of educational and life skill programs at the Teen Center.
- Manages compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for quality and safety in programming; ensures adherence to all Silver Bay YMCA policies.
- Keeps Director informed regarding enrollment, staffing and camp ratios; maintains accurate participant attendance records and any other required records or reports.
- Works with the Director to develop the annual revenue and expense budgets, and with the development team to identify and implement fundraising opportunities.
- Monitors budget, program enrollment/effectiveness, and proactively reviews program data for Silver Camp and the Teen Center.
- Directs the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Leads staff recruitment and training, including safety, planning activities, emergency procedures, and health and safety policies for both Silver Camp and Teen Center.
- Serves as District Coordinator for Silver Bay's Youth and Government Program.
- Provides leadership to the Youth and Government Programs in Essex and Warren Counties.
- Organizes the annual conference at Silver Bay; handles registration for the District.
- Attends statewide conferences.
- Develops the weekly themes, activities, lesson plans and schedules for Silver Camp and the Teen Center. Keeps apprised of YMCA and industry standards. Develops and regularly updates operational manuals for both locations.
- Oversees the planning and execution of Leaders Club, works with the Youth & Teen Team Leader to organize regular meetings with values activities, plans and executes community service projects, and ensures the successful transportation & chaperoning of teens to the YMCA Teen Leaders Club Northeast Regional Rallies.
- Manages budgets and supply lists; orders supplies and equipment within budget, ensures that equipment is in good working order and needed supplies are available.
- Directly manages Silver Camp and Teen Center staff; regularly meets with staff to proactively address concerns. Uses performance management tools and processes to grow and develop staff.
- Meets with Director regularly to communicate critical program information, adherence to budget, enrollment, staffing, marketing efforts, concerns at Silver Camp.
- Maintains required staff-to-camper ratios, assist with swimming activities as needed.
Communicates clearly and courteously with staff, parents, volunteers and children.
- Develops and maintains collaborative and harmonious relationships with parents, volunteers, caregivers, community organizations or agencies to maximize program impact and drive outcomes.
- Administers the Open Pathways financial assistance program for programming.
- Ensures site cleanliness, inspects and evaluates equipment on a daily and weekly basis; ensures necessary repairs are complete in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties, as requested.
- As a 24-hour operation, all staff may be asked to work weekends, evenings, night shifts and/or holidays to serve our members, guests, and program participants.
- BA degree in education, recreation or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience teaching children in a wide variety of recreational activities, such as archery, boating, camping, aquatic, sports, and theater.
- Ability to swim is preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience in developing and implementing fun, meaningful, and age-appropriate programs for youth and teens.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to enforce rules in a professional and positive manner is a must.
- Strong organizational and communication skills are required; basic MS computer skills are required.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people, including staff, peers, children, volunteers, and parents who represent all social and economic segments of the community.
- Child Abuse Prevention and other Y training is required within 30 days of hire; YMCA Team Leader certification (or willingness to obtain) is required; must have or be able to obtain CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
