Job DescriptionThe Counselor Associate in the Academic Advisement Center provides comprehensive, student-centered academic guidance to support FIT students from enrollment through graduation. This role partners closely with students to develop and monitor individualized degree plans, interpret academic policies and curricula, and promote timely progress toward degree completion. The Counselor Associate serves as a key resource for navigating institutional systems, connecting students to campus resources, and fostering informed academic decision-making.
Through collaborative engagement with faculty, advisors, and campus partners, the position contributes to student success, retention, and overall academic achievement at FIT.
- Provide individualized academic guidance, including degree mapping from enrollment through graduation, with expertise in degree requirements, minors, academic policies, and degree audit systems.
- Monitor student academic progress and standing; proactively support students experiencing academic or financial aid challenges, including probationary statuses.
- Assist students with questions regarding FIT programs, curriculum, and academic procedures, ensuring accurate and consistent advisement.
- Guide students in navigating MyFIT, including degree audit and registration systems, to promote academic independence and success.
- Maintain detailed electronic advising notes for all student interactions to support continuity of care and effective advising practices.
- Manage and update the Starfish Student Success Platform in accordance with departmental standards.
- Work collaboratively with Academic Advisement Counselors (NCF), program coordinators, and faculty to ensure comprehensive management of student academic plans.
- Participate in Academic Advisement Center initiatives, including advisement and registration events, orientations, and college-wide programs (some evenings/weekends required).
- Contribute to team development, professional growth initiatives, and ongoing improvements to advising practices.
- Communicate regularly with students regarding key academic deadlines, events, and milestones.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Academic Advisement Center's mission.

Job RequirementsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 2 years in academic advisement or a related higher education role.
- Knowledge of academic advisement models and processes.
- Strong technology proficiency, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, electronic reporting tools, and student information systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to a student-centered, inclusive advising approach.
- Ability to facilitate effective group advising or counseling sessions.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic environment.

SalarySalary: $70,522.32 - $75,576.93 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Salary: $70,522.32 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 92, after one year of service and annually thereafter.
