Memoir Writing Instructor; Independent Contractor

Bronx House is seeking a Memoir Writing Instructor (Independent Contractor) for a new intergenerational program. The Instructor will independently design and facilitate twelve (12) one-hour memoir writing workshops for older adults, using creative prompts and published memoir excerpts to inspire participant writing.

• Independently plan and lead twelve (12) one-hour group memoir writing sessions.
• Develop original lesson plans, writing prompts, and select published memoir samples.
• Provide group instruction and individualized feedback during sessions.
• Collaborate with Bronx House staff to support participant engagement and program goals.
• Assist with attendance tracking and participant progress documentation.
• Participate in recruitment or program events as agreed upon in advance.

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, or related field OR equivalent professional experience as a published writer.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with older adults.
• Experience teaching or facilitating in an educational or community-based setting.
• Ability to engage participants from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, professional approach.

• $100 per hour (group instruction).
• Contractor will invoice Bronx House for services rendered.

• Contractor retains control over instructional methods, materials, and lesson design.
• Contractor is not eligible for benefits and is not considered an employee of Bronx House.
• Engagement is limited to the defined scope and duration of the project.
