SUNY Niagara is excited to launch its Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program and is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable DMS Instructor. The Instructor will deliver engaging instruction, provide hands‑on training with state‑of‑the‑art sonography equipment, and mentor students to excel as professional sonographers. Responsibilities include integrating ultrasound technology into classroom instruction, curriculum development, lab supervision, and alignment with industry standards. The instructor will also oversee program coordination, student advisement, assessment of learning outcomes, and participation in divisional and college activities.
This full‑time position requires teaching 15 lecture hours (or 18 lecture/lab hours) per semester, office hours, meetings on campus, and committee participation.
There is a tenure‑track pathway for promotion to Associate Professor and Professor. Successful candidates will work 162 days per academic year (August–May) with winter break from mid‑December to early January and one week of spring break in mid‑March.

Typical Work ActivitiesInstruction
- Teach courses in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, including ultrasound physics, abdominal, obstetric & gynecologic sonography, vascular imaging, and patient care.
- instruction focused on learning outcomes and classroom objectives.
- Collaborate with faculty and the AVP of Academic Affairs to design and update course content, integrating current sonography technology.
- Select and modify instructional resources for diverse student needs.
- Develop course syllabi, assessments, and academic documentation.
- Administer tests, practical exams, and assignments to assess knowledge and skills.
- Create a classroom climate consistent with SUNY Niagara’s mission and vision.
- Communicate effectively, in writing and orally, with students and professionals.
- Ensure instructional practices comply with accreditation standards and industry guidelines.
- Offer at least five office hours per week.
- Manage hands‑on lab sessions, guiding students in operating equipment and interpreting images.
- Provide academic guidance, monitor progress, and support student success.
Professional Development
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge in sonography and pursue professional growth.
- Participate in faculty development, program‑specific and campus‑wide meetings.
Administrative Duties
- Meet requirements for creation, distribution, retention and/or submission of paperwork.
- Participate in curriculum monitoring and development, providing feedback to the Program Coordinator and AVP of Academic Affairs.
- Complete required reporting such as student attendance, census, learning outcome progress, and final grade entry.
- Attend required College functions and events; participate in faculty senate and divisional committees.
- Advise students on classes and career options.
- If serving as program coordinator:
- Recordkeeping, budgeting, scheduling.
- Program updates (syllabi, degree requirements).
- New course and program development.
- Represent program at open houses.
- Program evaluation (PEER) and Advisory Board participation.
- Hire, train, and evaluate adjunct faculty and part‑time technical assistants.
- Supervise College Accelerated Program (CAP) courses at local high schools.
