General Description
SUNY Niagara has a need for a part‑time Music Instructor for our Foundations of Music Theory course. This introductory course is taught in person in a classroom setting on our Sanborn, NY campus. It presents the basics of musical notation, covering melodic and rhythmic notation, clefs, scales, key signatures, principles of rhythm, and chord symbols. The course is recommended for non‑music majors or students with no prior music experience.
It is usually offered in the Fall and Spring semesters.
Remuneration
Salary: $960 per lecture hour / $860 per lab hour.
Applications are accepted on a continuous basis. Openings may or may not exist at this time. Candidates will be contacted when the department has an opening.
Typical Work Activities- Teach the course on campus.
- Track attendance as needed.
- Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester.
- Report grades at the conclusion of the semester.
Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups. Must communicate effectively with students, co‑workers, supervisors, and the campus community. Must prepare and present information. Must operate computers and physically perform the duties of the position, adjusting as needed for Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.
Required Qualifications- Three years of experience teaching at a high school or college level.
- Master’s Degree in Music or related field.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
- Experience with the Brightspace learning management system.
