General DescriptionSUNY Niagara has a need for part‑time instructors to teach introductory Philosophy courses in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Division. Courses are typically three lecture hours per week, offered in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online modalities. The selected candidate must be available to report to campus in person when required.
Classes are held on the main campus in Sanborn, NY, and at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute (NFCI) in Niagara Falls, NY. Applicants should be able to attend in‑person meetings and professional development on the Sanborn campus even if teaching online.
Typical Work Activities- Teach courses in the agreed delivery format (face‑to‑face, hyflex, hybrid, blended, or online)
- Hold office hours in person or virtually, as appropriate
- Report assessment of student learning outcomes at the conclusion of the term
- Report grades at the conclusion of the term
Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population, speak in front of groups, communicate effectively with students, colleagues, supervisors, and the campus community, develop, prepare, and present information, use computers, perform the duties of the position, and adjust teaching to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.
Required Qualifications- Master’s Degree or ABD in Philosophy or a related field
- Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials
- Ph.D. in Philosophy or a related field
- Prior college‑level teaching experience and experience with classroom technologies
- Experience with a learning management system such as D2L Brightspace
- Online teaching experience, particularly with training based on OSCQR through SUNY Online or a SUNY campus
- Evidence of successful teaching of non‑traditional students
