Overview
Kids in the Game offers sport and enrichment-based programs across New York City, serving thousands of children annually. The mission is to provide positive experiences and opportunities through sports and creative play, fostering a love for physical activity and learning while building integrity and healthy lifestyles.
Responsibilities- Lead group games and challenges during recess for pre‑K to middle school students.
- Adapt activities to accommodate children with diverse physical and developmental abilities.
- Arrange and oversee 20‑25 minute recess periods for 40‑80 children, coordinating with co‑coaches and school aides.
- Organize structured games such as switch, four corners, fireball, wizardball, soccer, and basketball.
- Set up game stations, ensuring safe play spaces and maintaining equipment.
- Manage indoor and outdoor recess schedules, adjusting for weather and school protocols.
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play across all activities.
- Build positive relationships with students, serving as a supportive and encouraging role model.
- Use positive reinforcement and proactive behavior management strategies to promote social‑emotional growth.
- Actively supervise students, monitor and address conflicts, and maintain emergency procedures.
- Collaborate closely with school staff to align programming with school culture and expectations.
- Communicate student concerns, incidents, and equipment needs to site leadership.
- Attend required trainings, team meetings, and performance check‑ins.
- Arrive prepared, punctual, and professionally dressed in prescribed uniform.
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in physical education (highly preferred).
- At least two years of experience leading physical education and fitness classes in school settings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and engage groups through a structured interview and demo process.
- Ability to work independently and within a team; adaptable to different class structures.
- Strong communication skills with People & Culture and Program Management teams.
- Positive, influential role model who contributes meaningfully to school culture.
- Up‑to‑date physical and tuberculosis test documentation.
- Must pass Federal and NY State background checks and complete Department of Education fingerprinting.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are a plus.
Part‑time, hourly position. Competitive rates range from $23–$29 per hour, based on experience in school‑based or PE instruction.
